The California Highway Patrol says a man was driving under the influence when he caused a crash that killed a 71-year-old woman Monday night near Selma. Officers found the van of Chul Kyu Shin which had rear-ended an SUV, and a passenger in the SUV was killed. Chul Kyu Shin was determined to be driving under the influence. There were four people in the SUV, and the impact killed 71-year-old Maria Esquivel of Clovis who was sitting in the back seat. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 76-year-old man driving suffered minor injuries as did two other women aged 72 and 26-year-old. Shin was not injured and was arrested for felony DUI. The investigation is ongoing.
We hope the 3 other passengers in the car are recovering well, and that Maria’s family gets justice. It is so awful to lose a loved one, let alone to drunk driving. Just remember, stay safe on the road, and if you need any DUI School, A-1 is here to help!
