Is 5mph Over Enough to Get a Ticket?

Speeding can be dangerous as it increases the time it takes you to react and brake if the vehicles in front of you suddenly stop. The Colorado State Patrol wants to give citations our for driving 5mph over the speed limit, and their reasons why are interesting. A good rule of thumb is to maintain one car length per 10 mph traveled. When driving at a speed of 55 mph, it is recommended to maintain a distance of at least five car lengths from the vehicle in front of you. According to the Colorado State Patrol, 685 of the 2,860 fatal and injury-causing accidents investigated last year were caused by speeding. It is important to note that exceeding the posted speed limit is considered speeding and could lead to a citation.

Although this does seem like a strict idea, it seems to be very beneficial. This would greatly reduce speeding, but unfortunately will most likely increase the number of people that will be getting citations for speeding. Do you think this is too strict, or is it the right way to go about speed when it comes to the road?
