Georgia Road Test: What to Expect

Basic Driving Skills

You’ll be tested on how well you can:

  • Start and stop smoothly
  • Accelerate and brake safely
  • Steer and stay centered in your lane

Turns & Intersections

  • Proper right and left turns
  • Stopping fully at stop signs
  • Yielding correctly
  • Turning into the correct lane

Lane Changes

  • Checking mirrors and blind spots
  • Using turn signals early
  • Changing lanes smoothly and safely

Parking Skills

  • Parallel parking or parking between lines (varies by test site)
  • Pulling in and out of parking spaces safely

Observation & Awareness

  • Watching for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Obeying traffic signs and signals
  • Maintaining a safe following distance

Speed Control

  • Driving at appropriate speeds
  • Adjusting speed for traffic, weather, and road conditions

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Rolling through stop signs
  • Forgetting to signal
  • Speeding or driving too slowly
  • Not checking blind spots
  • Panicking after a small mistake
