Georgia Road Test: What to Expect
Basic Driving Skills
You’ll be tested on how well you can:
- Start and stop smoothly
- Accelerate and brake safely
- Steer and stay centered in your lane
Turns & Intersections
- Proper right and left turns
- Stopping fully at stop signs
- Yielding correctly
- Turning into the correct lane
Lane Changes
- Checking mirrors and blind spots
- Using turn signals early
- Changing lanes smoothly and safely
Parking Skills
- Parallel parking or parking between lines (varies by test site)
- Pulling in and out of parking spaces safely
Observation & Awareness
- Watching for pedestrians and cyclists
- Obeying traffic signs and signals
- Maintaining a safe following distance
Speed Control
- Driving at appropriate speeds
- Adjusting speed for traffic, weather, and road conditions
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Rolling through stop signs
- Forgetting to signal
- Speeding or driving too slowly
- Not checking blind spots
- Panicking after a small mistake
