Last month in TV presence Richard Sherman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Washington state law defines DUI as “driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, cannabis, or any drug,” including having a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or greater or having more than 5 nanograms of active THC per milliliter of blood. It wasn’t clear if allegations against Sherman regarded alcohol, marijuana or another intoxicant. Previously in the summer of 2021, Sherman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence. He crashed his car then proceeded to try to break into his in-law’s home.
According to the 2022 NSDUH, 172.7 million adults ages 18 and older (67.4% in this age group) reported that they drank in the past year. This is a big majority of society, which could in certain times be dangerous. One of those times is driving. Driving under the influence is one of the most simple things to do but the most dangerous. We are glad Richard Sherman wasn’t hurt, but we truly hope he learns from his past mistakes. Drinking is completely acceptable, but driving after isn’t.
