What is a DUI Course?

A DUI course is an educational program that aims to educate individuals who have been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs about the dangers of impaired driving. The goal of these courses is to reduce the likelihood of re-offending and to promote responsible behavior behind the wheel. DUI courses are mandated by the courts for individuals who are convicted of DUI. Who Needs to Take a DUI Course?

Situations and reasons why you could receive a DUI:

1. First-time Offenders: For a first DUI offense, individuals are typically required to complete a 20-hour DUI Risk Reduction Program. This course is designed to educate offenders about the risks of impaired driving, help them reflect on their behavior, and prevent future incidents.

2. Repeat Offenders: If you have multiple DUI convictions, you may be required to take more intensive programs. Repeat offenders face more stringent requirements, which could include additional counseling, longer courses, or other rehabilitation measures.

3. Underage Drivers: Georgia has a Zero Tolerance Law for drivers under the age of 21. If a minor is arrested for DUI, they will be required to take the DUI Risk Reduction Program, regardless of their BAC level.

4. Conditional Licenses: In some cases, individuals may be allowed to obtain a conditional (limited) driver’s license after completing part of the DUI course or demonstrating a commitment to completing the program.

What Does the DUI Risk Reduction Program Involve?

The DUI Risk Reduction Program in Georgia is a state-approved course designed to provide education and evaluation for drivers arrested on DUI charges. The program consists of two main parts:
