What should you do if your tires flat? Well just follow these ten steps and you’ll get back on the road in no time!
1. Put your car in park, turn on your hazard lights and set your parking brake. If you’re not in a flat area, block your tires with wheel wedges or other bracing material like a rock or chunk of wood to prevent rolling.
2. Retrieve your spare tire and lug wrench. These tire-changing tools are typically located in your trunk, under your car, on the rear door, or in storage cubbies on the sides of your trunk.
3. Loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire by turning the wrench counterclockwise — they’re probably on very tight, so get ready to use your full body weight or foot if needed!
4. Raise the car by placing the jack under the metal frame of your car, just behind the front tire or in front of the rear tire — depending on which one is flat.
5. Remove the lug nuts and keep them together for easy retrieval.
6. Pull off the flat tire and replace it with your spare.
7. Using your hand, put the lug nuts back on as tightly as you can, twisting them clockwise.
8. Lower the jack until the tire touches the ground.
9. Using the wrench, finish tightening the lug nuts, then lower the jack completely and remove it.
10. Finally, put your tools and flat tire back in the car and head to a service station as soon as possible to repair your flat tire.
